Biography
Partners in music and in life, Sara Costa and Fabiano Casanova formed their piano duo in 2014. Since then, they have performed regularly in both piano four-hands and two-piano repertoire in Italy and abroad, establishing themselves as one of the most active and highly regarded Italian chamber ensembles on today’s piano scene.
Both artists also enjoy distinguished solo careers, appearing in major halls and festivals across Europe and Asia. Their performances have been warmly received by international critics and broadcast by radio stations such as RAI Radio3, Radio Classica, and Vatican Radio. They have released several solo and chamber recordings for labels including Da Vinci Classics, Brilliant Classics, Velut Luna, Wide Classique, and Digressione Label, all met with excellent reviews.
In Italy, the duo has performed for leading festivals and institutions such as La Società dei Concerti di Milano, Roma Tre Orchestra, Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, the Bartolomeo Cristofori Festival in Padua, Auditorium C. Pollini (Padua), Auditorium Nicolini (Piacenza), the Fondazione Accademia Perosi in Biella (Teatro Sociale Villani and Palazzo Gromo Losa), Palermo Classica, and the Valdarno Piano Festival. In 2023, they were the only Italian artists invited to the prestigious 37th Sandviken Chamber Music Festival (Sweden), and in 2025 they toured China, performing in major venues such as Tianjin Grand Theatre, Shanghai Oriental Art Center, Hefei Grand Theatre, Chengdu City Concert Hall, Honggutan Grand Theatre (Nanchang), and Peking University.
Acclaimed for their intense, empathetic, and charismatic playing, Sara and Fabiano are passionate interpreters of the great piano duo repertoire, while also devoting particular attention to the rediscovery of rarer, less frequently performed works. Their debut album, “Russian Music for Piano Four Hands” (Da Vinci Classics, 2019), dedicated to Russian four-hands repertoire, received the Silver Medal at the Global Music Awards in California.
Both are tenured professors of Main Piano at Italian conservatories: Sara at the “A. Vivaldi” Conservatory in Alessandria and Fabiano at the “A. Boito” Conservatory in Parma. They are also regularly invited to give masterclasses in piano and piano duo repertoire in Italy andabroad. Many of their students have won prizes in national and international piano competitions.
Their musical approach combines the refinement of the Italian school with the technical and poetic depth of the Russian pianistictradition, and is grounded in an expressive search aimed at depth, dialogue, and listening
